The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) is the police department of the City of Beverly Hills, California. The current police chief of the BHPD is John Taggart.
The Beverly Hills Police Department is a once esteemed establishment with officers who abided strictly by the rules and conduct laid out for them in the police handbooks. Their officers were amongst the most polite, rigid, and socially acceptable.

Smuggling Operation[]
Detroit police Detective Axel Foley arrives in Beverly Hills to investigate the murder of his best friend, Mikey Tandino. After being thrown through a window, he is arrested for "disturbing the peace" and having a concealed weapon. His failure to identify himself as a fellow police officers incurs the annoyance of Sergeant John Taggart and confusion from his partner, Detective Billy Rosewood. Taggart and Foley exchange tense words that results in Taggart striking Foley in the abdomen. Lieutenant Andrew Bogomil witnessed the assault and reprimanded Taggart on the spot. He asked Foley if he wanted to press charges, and when Foley expressed surprise over this, Bogomil sternly relayed that they follow proper procedure in Beverly Hills. Foley is bailed out of police custody, though Bogomil puts Taggart and Rosewood on his tail. After the officers lost Foley through an unfortunate tailpipe incident, they were docked two days pay. The trio topped a robbery in a strip club while on duty - Taggart and Rosewood were subsequently relieved of their assignment and it was given to Foster and McCabe. Foley lost their tail within half a day. Bogomil decides to hear Foley's theories about Victor Maitland and his illegal smuggling operation.

Following the murder of his Inspector Douglas Todd, Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills on the tail of the killer. He visits the BHPD, which has upgraded its security gate system from a real person to an automated system. Axel ends up making the system speak French. He abandons his car by the gate to walk inside. His old friend Billy Rosewood has been promoted to Police Detective Sergeant and Deputy Director of Operations for Joint Systems Interdepartmental Operational Command. His new partner, Jon Flint, takes over for a retired Taggart. Axel wants the departments help in his investigation of Wonder World. He believes the amusement park is the headquarters for Ellis DeWald's criminal activity.
